Why aftermarket?

In today’s society there is a large need for vehicles to be equipped with navigation and DVD players. Many vehicle owners want these features for themselves and most are for their passengers (keeping their children occupied).  Not many vehicles on the road today have this option, especially the older vehicles, and many do not want to pay the extra dealer cost.  This is when the vehicle owners turn to the electronic and car audio stores to add the navigation, sound upgrades, and video upgrades at a cheaper cost, which has more features and can be transported from vehicle to vehicle.  Many consumers question paying dealers an average of $2500 for a navigation upgrade when they can buy a Tom Tom or a Garmin Nuvi for less than $500.  Now ask yourself, would I rather pay the car dealer or an aftermarket dealer?  Most dealers have two options, take it or leave it.  Now, in the aftermarket world you can choose from the brand, the size, and even the look (display).  How about the free installation that most aftermarket dealers offer?  Which one would you choose dealer or aftermarket?
